KAPAMPANGAN FILMS COMPETE AT THE 5TH CINEKABALEN

The 5th CineKabalen Kapampangan Film Festival organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Foundation for Lingap Kapampangan, Inc., and the Holy Angel University Center for Kapampangan Studies successfully held its free screening and awarding ceremony last January 30,2016 at the Peter G. Nepomuceno, Holy Angel University.
The said regional film festival founded by Director Jason Paul Laxamana once again continued its legacy in promoting the Kapampangan language and culture through showcasing the talents of Kapampangans in the art of film making. Thus, exhibition short films were played followed by the preview of this year’s eight competing films for the Aring Sinukwan Category.
The finalists were (in order of viewing): “Lumput” by Arcel Juan Lacap from Masantol, Pampanga; “Ratatat ng Dante” by Jasper Ramon Tulabut from Paniqui, Tarlac; “Trio” by Ian Christoper Cruz from Santa Ignacia, Tarlac; “Siwala” by Josue Gopez from Angeles City; “Pamagsadia” by Gabrielle Tayag of Angeles City; “Letratu” by Albert Tony Antonio from Macabebe, Pampanga; “Regalu” by Raymond Nonato Anunciacion from Bamban, Tarlac; and “Pipoy Malibi” by Brianne Carlo Amparado from Angeles City.
The winners were given trophies originally crafted by Kapampangan artist Don Reich De Dios. These trophies were various animals from the Kapampangan mythology.
“Pamagsadia” meaning Preparation, bagged the Best Short Film award and received the Gintung Damulag trophy and a cash prize.

Kapampangan Culture Award: Lumput by Arcel Juan Lacap
Second Best Short Film: Ratatat ng Dante by Jasper Ramon Tulabut
Best Short Film: Pamagsadia by Gabrielle Tayag
